Apopka Softball Foundation Celebrates a Successful 2026 Summer Camp

From July 13–15, the sounds of laughter, encouragement, and softball echoed across the fields at Apopka High School as young athletes gathered for the 2026 Apopka Softball Summer Camp. Over three exciting days, 23 campers, ages 8 through 14, had the opportunity to sharpen their softball fundamentals, build confidence, make new friends, and experience firsthand what it means to be part of the proud Blue Darter softball tradition.

The camp, led by longtime Apopka High School Head Coach Mike MacWithey, featured instruction from current varsity and junior varsity players alongside recent graduates preparing to continue their softball careers at the collegiate level. Campers rotated through hitting, fielding, pitching, and baserunning stations, ensuring every participant received individualized instruction while having plenty of fun along the way.

What made this camp truly special wasn't just learning how to hit a ball farther or field a grounder more cleanly—it was the opportunity for young players to connect with the athletes they hope to become one day. Throughout the week, campers witnessed outstanding examples of leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance from the high school and collegiate athletes who generously volunteered their time.

The Apopka Softball Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to Coach Mike MacWithey and Assistant Coach Tina Mora for their continued commitment to developing the next generation of student-athletes.

We also offer a heartfelt thank you to the current Apopka High School Softball players and recent graduates who dedicated their summer to mentoring these young athletes. Their patience, encouragement, and enthusiasm made a lasting impact on every camper. Whether demonstrating proper mechanics, sharing stories about high school softball, or simply offering words of encouragement, they represented the Blue Darter program with excellence and pride.

Programs like this are successful because of volunteers who understand that investing in today's young players helps ensure a strong future for Apopka softball.

Camps like this are an important part of that mission, creating a pathway for future Blue Darters while fostering a lifelong love of softball.
